Greetings
There are high hopes that photon science can be a new driver of progress in science and technology. Osaka University has established a track record of world-leading research results in photon science through proactive inter-faculty and inter-disciplinary collaboration, and by advancing the internationalization of the university.
Osaka University seeks to become a global leader as an international research and development center in photon science, to make the field even more dynamic and to create scientific development and technological innovation based on our research results.
We conduct our research in close collaboration with the Riken SPring-8 Center, which boasts the world-renowned synchrotron radiation- and X-ray-free electron laser SPring8/SACLA facilities. Osaka University has three dedicated beam lines at SPring8, as well as its own power laser facility at SACLA, and the University also contributes to optical device development at the SPring-8 Center. We also have a cumulative total of 3,000 people associated with Osaka University using the facility every year.
It is against this background that we are establishing the Harima Center for Photon Science, Osaka University within the Riken SPring-8 Center. We will combine the world-leading facilities of the research center and Osaka University’s photon beam science and technology and use these to gather together and combine internationally competitive people, technologies and knowledge, in order to nurture a place of open innovation and create the seeds for future academic and industrial advancement.
By creating a research environment in which top people and groundbreaking technologies will come together, our center will help achieve Osaka University’s “World Tekijuku” concept.
I respectfully request your support and cooperation as our center strives to open the path to a new age.
